Days of Wine and Roses, remembering BILL EVANS,

Der CD Titel des gleichnamigen Stückes „Days of Wine and Roses“ stammt aus dem Gedicht VItae Summa Brevis des englischen DIchters Ernest Dowson (1867-1900): „They are not long, the days of wine and roses, out of a misty dream our path emerges for a while, then closes within a dream“. Sie dauern nicht lange, die Tage des Weines und der Rosen, aus einem nebligen Traum taucht unser Weg für eine eile auf und endet in einem Traum.

an den diese CD erinnern soll, interpretierte dieses Stück öfter und sehr verschieden.

Ernest Dowson führte ein kurzes und draufgängerisches Leben. Er verliebte sich in eine Kellnerin und schrieb sein bestes Werk für sie. „Cynara“, die seine Verse nicht verstehen konnte, brannte mit einem Kellner durch und der Dichter verbrachte den Rest seines Lebens im Elend. „vitae summa brevis“ stammt ursprünglich aus Horaz’ Ode I:
„vitae summa brevis spem nos vetat inchoare longam“
„Die kurze Summe des Lebens gestattet es uns nicht, langwährende Hoffnungen zu hegen“

The CD title of the piece of the same name "Days of Wine and Roses" comes from the poem VItae Summa Brevis by the English poet Ernest Dowson (1867-1900): "They are not long, the days of wine and roses, out of a misty dream our path emerges for a while, then closes within a dream". They don't last long, the days of wine and roses, from a misty dream our path emerges for a hurry and ends in a dream.

BILL EVANS, to whom this CD is intended to commemorate, interpreted this piece more often and very differently.

Ernest Dowson led a short and swashbuckling life. He fell in love with a waitress and wrote his best work for her. "Cynara", unable to understand his verses, eloped with a waiter and the poet lived out the rest of his life in misery. "vitae summa brevis" originally comes from Horace's Ode I:

"vitae summa brevis spem nos vetat inchoare longam"
“The brevity of life forbids us to entertain distant hopes”
